Brown Scores 22, Porzingis Shines in Return as Celtics Dominate Mavericks 107-89 in NBA Finals Game 1
Jaylen Brown scored 22 points, and Kristaps Porzingis added 20 in his first game in over a month, leading the Boston Celtics to a 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Derrick White contributed 15 points as Boston built a 29-point lead in the first half, connecting on 16 three-pointers.
Porzingis, sidelined since April 29 with a calf strain, came off the bench, providing a spark with six rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes. Six Celtics scored in double figures.
Dallas cut the deficit to eight points in the third quarter, but Boston quickly regained control.
Luka Doncic led Dallas with 30 points, while P.J. Washington added 14 points and eight rebounds. The Mavericks struggled offensively, totaling just nine assists.
Former Celtic Kyrie Irving struggled, finishing with 12 points and receiving boos throughout the game due to past tensions with Boston fans.
The Celtics, aiming for their first championship since 2008, showed no rust from their 10-day layoff after sweeping the Pacers. They moved the ball well and attacked the Dallas defense effectively.
Apart from Doncic, Dallas struggled offensively. They briefly led in the first quarter but were outscored 44-16 to trail 58-29 in the second.
Dallas used a 35-14 run to cut Boston’s lead to 72-64, but Boston ended the third quarter with a 14-2 run to lead 86-66 entering the fourth.
Porzingis ended his 10-game hiatus, quickly contributing with free throws, a jumper, a dunk, and two blocks. He scored 11 points in the first quarter, helping Boston to a 37-20 lead. Porzingis finished the half with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
