Kevin Costner Rejected CNN’s Request to Shorten Whitney Houston Eulogy for Commercials

Kevin Costner refused to shorten his eulogy for Whitney Houston so CNN could air commercials during her funeral. He shared this during an interview on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast. Costner and Houston became close friends after starring in “The Bodyguard” together.

Costner spent a lot of time preparing his speech and refused to cut it short for commercials. His eulogy lasted 17 minutes. He was initially hesitant to speak but agreed after Dionne Warwick encouraged him.

At the funeral, Costner felt the weight of the moment and delivered his speech in a lively and full church. “The Bodyguard” was a huge success, earning $411 million and making its soundtrack the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time. Houston’s song “I Will Always Love You” became a timeless hit. Houston passed away in 2012 at age 48.
