Paka Malayalam Movie: Review, Cast, Story and More

Paka Movie Review: Paka is structured on the classic Romeo-Juliet story: in this story, they are named Johnny (Basil Paulose) and Anna (Vinitha Koshy). Given the generations of extremely bloody conflict between their respective families, you may wonder how Johnny and Anna ever fell in love – especially when someone from Johnny’s family killed Anna’s father. But writer and director Nitin Lukos does a very interesting thing. He assumes a love story and pushes it into the background. Johnny and Anna fell in love and that’s what happened. There are no traditional romantic scenes and the scenes between Johnny and Anna are always annoying. Instead of sweet things, they talk about nightmares and miss wedding gifts at the registrar’s office.

Paka Movie Story

The village in Nitin Lukos’ first film, which premiered at the 46th Toronto International Film Festival, does not exist in zero or fictional land. This is done by the heirs of the people who migrated from Central Kerala to the upper classes of Malabar. His initial battle against the punishing landscape continues as the village’s historical background.

On the surface, this is a familiar story that has been told on screen in many ways over the years. Johnny (Basil Paulos) and Anna (Vinita Koshi) from two families with a history of animosity fall in love and get married. However, Nithin Lukos does not accept the traditional route with this familiar material. He uses it as a portal to take you into this world of revenge. Even the youngest members of a family like Pachi (Athul John) are not immune. All of them are just waiting to get stuck in this maelstrom from which there is no escape.

As corpses are pulled out of the river we enter their world – which is the place where all corpses are dumped – there is relative peace in families. However, the couple’s wedding plans were thwarted when Johnny’s uncle Kocheppu (Jose Kizhakkan) returned home after serving a long sentence for murdering one of Anna’s family members. Although Kocheppu has repented, the other side is still seeking revenge. Stories told by an elderly relative filled with vengeance suggest that the young Kocheppu is committing murder.

Paka Movie Review

Nitin Lukos’ experience as a sound designer comes from his sparse, but effective, background score and use of many random sound clips playing in the background. For example, there is repetitive commentary from WWE wrestling matches played, but unlike mock fights in those competitions, everything here is raw and real. He does not celebrate blood donation, but rather takes an aloof view of the normality and cyclical nature of events, although at times, like the two central characters, one wishes to escape from that cycle.

‘Paka’ features a budding director who controls the medium and is sure of what he wants out of it.
