Star Wars ‘The Acolyte’: A Promising Start with Some Mixed Reactions

If you like the Original Trilogy and Andor, you might not like this very much but if you’re a fan of the Prequel Trilogy and Mandalorian series then you might like it. It has a very interesting plot with the Jedi and Mae, but it sometimes suffers from wooden and conventional writing that plagued the prequel and sequel trilogies. Its practical sets as well as the CGI are great and feels like the original trilogy. The fight sequences mirror Hong Kong action movies (Jet Li, Jackie Chan, etc) or the Matrix, but it lacks impact of the hit. For example, when people get hit you can see them get hit but the audience won’t feel the hit. I love the practical prosthetics especially on the Neimoidians and adds an extra layer of immersion. Overall, an enjoyable and promising first 2 episodes but cautiously optimistic.

Ups:

  • The show is INTERESTING – It isn’t some generic plot and I’m genuinely curious to see where it goes
  • Fight Scenes – well choreographed hand-to-hand fight scenes.
  • Visuals – Nothing seems off about the production design, all the CGI is great, the world is more immersive than ever, and there are some very picturesque shots.

Downs:

  • A few scenes feel robotic and ingenuine. This could be on purpose though.
  • Telling, not showing one event (I presume this will get shown at some point)
  • All characters are awesome, but the protagonist Isn’t very interesting yet, she seems very emotionless.

I’m giving 5 to fight just troll hate on a show just getting started. As an OG fan I liked the first two episodes Sol is great will be a favourite, alien variety great. Story is good very intrigued, thought Master Indara died little easy could see the innocent misdirect coming a mile away, fat Jedi and person playing Yord is a bad actor. Has potential looks beautifully shot. New world everywhere no Tatooine set design good. Is it perfect no. It’s not woke, and neither am I stop group thinking and hating this because its Disney and you hate Kennedy and the creator of this show. Is it perfect no neither were the originals or the prequels but are loved. Chill the hell out and enjoy a show. As of now real rating would be a 4. but 5 to fight troll rating.

Does not deserve the hate it’s getting. Not a perfect show but quite good so far. Also, it is not “woke” for people throwing that term around. It’s a very character and story driven show that is not pushing any form of agenda. And it has themes consistent with all of Star Wars. I’d like to think I’m a trustworthy source as I’ve seen practically every single Star Wars project, and it has been my favourite fandom my whole life. I don’t understand all the hate associated with this project. Rogue, one had a diverse cast, and everyone loves that film 🤷‍♂️. I think this is great so far too. – review of the first 2 episodes
