Suzanne Collins Announces New ‘Hunger Games’ Book and Movie
Suzanne Collins is returning to Panem with a new “The Hunger Games” novel inspired by 18th-century Scottish philosopher David Hume and modern misinformation. Scholastic announced that “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the fifth book in the series, will be published on March 18, 2025. The story begins with the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, set 24 years before the original novel and 40 years after “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”

Lionsgate will release the film adaptation of “Sunrise on the Reaping” on November 20, 2026, directed by Francis Lawrence. The previous four books have sold over 100 million copies and inspired a successful film series starring Jennifer Lawrence. Collins’ new novel delves into themes of propaganda and control, drawing on Hume’s ideas of governance. The “Hunger Games” franchise remains a significant success for Lionsgate, with a stage production debuting in London this fall.
