The Acolyte’s Twin Concept Stumbles in Debut

The Acolyte is receiving decent reviews, similar to Ahsoka but not as high as The Mandalorian and Andor. However, the central premise left me unimpressed.

Force-Powered Twins

Amandla Stenberg plays twins, Osha and Mae, in the show. Osha was once a Jedi padawan turned mechanic, while Mae is on a revenge path due to their childhood separation. Osha is wrongly accused of Mae’s actions and must clear her name while discovering Mae is still alive.

Premiere Problems

The first two episodes didn’t work well for me. The show uses a “gotcha” moment when Mae kills a Jedi, and Osha is blamed. This twist felt cheap. Both twins have the same hairstyle, adding to the confusion and gimmick of Osha being mistaken for the killer.

Predictable Plot Concerns

I worry the story will take a predictable route. The Jedi being hunted might be responsible for the tragedy that separated the twins. Osha could convince Mae to abandon the dark side, especially since Mae’s revenge is for a sister she thought was dead.

Hoping for Improvement

It’s early in the season, so I hope it improves. The twin concept felt forced and grating in the double premiere. We’ll see how it goes from here.
